What is the difference between rode videomic and videomic pro

I'm very happy with the purchase. We're using this microphone on a Nikon D for mostly family videography and really love the build quality of this product. Its audio performance is astonishing and is recommended to use instead of a built-in mic.

It doesn't feature stereo, but the mono is put on both channels, so there's no downside to that. It sounds very clean and has many options filters, etc to adjust it to exactly your needs. We picked this one over the non Pro version because of the shorter build length and the new rubber band design.

It was worth the extra money. Comes with a few extra rubber bands in case they break. I just wrapped a three day video shoot in D. It performed very well shooting on street corners and in noisy situations.

I used this mic, converted to mono along side a mono wireless LAV, into a dual mono to stereo adapter, into camera. I resplit the two mono tracks and mixed them in post. The result is a perfectly natural sounding high quality clean audio signal. Don't let people tell you that you can't get great in-camera audio without breaking the bank. The rubber shock bands are available to order as a pack through your local distributor.

This allows for far lower noise transference when compared to the older style cable used in many video microphones currently on the market. The chosen cable is incredibly strong and is rated to several thousand flex cycles, ensuring that the cable lasts a long, long time.

Of course if this is not enough, the VideoMic Pro comes with our industry leading 10 year warranty, ensuring complete peace of mind. We recommend an Alkaline or Lithium battery for the best possible battery life. If you use a slightly lower power battery, the mic will work but may not meet our published specifcation. The Deadcat VideoMic Pro needs to be fit with the V cutout at the top of the mic, when pulled back the two tabs connect together over the top of the windshield, the microphone windshield stays attached to the microphone when fitting the Deadcat.

This standard shoe is suitable for the majority of camera attachments. If your camera has a different, or custom adaptor, please contact your camera manufacturer for information on converters to fit the universal shoe connection. Basically, when the camera cannot sense an audio input signal it automatically increases the gain of the input.

It is increased so much that the noise floor in the camera microphone amplifier becomes audible. The AGC can be disabled on some cameras and it is worth checking with you camera manufacturer for information on this, which can sometimes require a firmware update to the camera. We recommend setting your audio levels manually to achieve an optimum signal to noise ratio and disabling the AGC of the camera.

But the more you turn up the gain, the louder the noise. By boosting the signal before the camera preamps you have a lot more play to achieve reasonable volume levels. Rode has taken an already extremely popular product and made it even better. As many have said and will say again, audio is as important, if not more important, than video. Good visuals paired with good audio is synergy, indeed more than the sum of its parts.

XLR balanced output. It draws low voltage. Small enough. The only issue was portability. It's little over a pound. All worked out nicely.

I can take Dual Pre to workplace and use it as a preamp for my iphone. It sounds much better. Connect it to a laptop via USB to record digital audio in high quality.

May be this will be useful:. The downfalls of both of these mics are similar. The problem is their weak, plastic construction, and their breakable shock mounts. The shock mount on the VMP constantly falls out of place and needs to be adjusted.

That said, they are both very good sounding microphones. I'm working on a mic shootout right now sorry Vitaliy - I didn't have the FR when we did the shoot , and the VMP stands up really well against the competition.

Ptchaw September Factor in that you don't get a deadcat with the Videomic and the price difference is very little, worth it IMHO.
